I wanted to find a way to fold the wings of a small plane more easily and quickly than what was done. I wanted the wings to be stored above the fuselage, overlapping to take as little space as possible in width* so that the plane could go on the road. To achieve this overlappingLire la suite « At the beginning »

Part 103 aircraft with folding wings, electric or petrol powered
After much trial and error I propose this drawing of an ultralight Part 103 that can be motorized with an electric motor as well as with a gasoline engine. The weight and balance of this plane is better than in my previous projects. But the wing folding system with rod ends remains the same, ILire la suite « Part 103 aircraft with folding wings, electric or petrol powered »
Part 103…Front battery
I can place a 15k Geiger battery at the front. Dimensions 442mm/284mm/85mm. There is still enough room for the feet underneath. It protrudes a little from the fuselage, like a small petrol engine! If this does not pose a connection problem, this would be the best solution for the balance. We would thus have atLire la suite « Part 103…Front battery »
Part 103 electric aircraft with folding wings. Modifications
After weighings on a 1/2 scale template, I noticed that the plane was not at all loaded enough at the front. I chose a balance point at 30% of the leading edge of the wing, a pilot weight of 80kg and 40kg batteries (8kgx5) If you want to keep these batteries behind the seat* youLire la suite « Part 103 electric aircraft with folding wings. Folding of the wings: Tilt of the rotation axis
Thanks to the tilt of the axis of rotation, the wing rises during folding and passes over the vertical stabilizer. This one can therefore be enlarged. This is the process I use on my Part 103 project. It can also be applied to my previous design of a small conventional plane . With a tilt ofLire la suite « Folding of the wings: Tilt of the rotation axis »
Part 103 electric aircraft with folding wings ( project)
Project of a Part 103 electric aircraft with my rod end folding wing system, wich allows the wings to fold and unfold easily and overlap on top of the aircraft, (see my previous projects). With this design the wings rise when we fold them and pass over the rudder. Its specifications would be: Wingspan: 8,80Lire la suite « Part 103 electric aircraft with folding wings ( project) »
New design and modifications
I redesigned my little plane, it’s a bit longer and the wingspan is increased. The rear part of the fuselage could be made of carbon. It is symmetrical, so 1/2 mold is enough. I suggest this attachment for the upper rod end, it is screwed over its entire stem length into a threaded tube: ToLire la suite « New design and modifications »
Upper rod end with plain rod
Allows slight rotation of the rod end in addition to the rotation of the ball joint when folding and unfolding the wing
Who wants to try the adventure?
I think that in 20 years there will be many small planes like mine in the hangars of flight clubs, but also in garages and on the roads. And it will be thanks to the folding of the wings with a rod end. This rod end is not installed in the best way since itLire la suite « Who wants to try the adventure? »
15% of the load!
According to my last tests, more precise than the previous ones, the vertical load on the upper rod end which connects the wing to the fuselage represents less than 15% of the wing load. That is 15% of 120k = 18kg for 1G. For 6G = 108kg. I remind you that I tested the 10mmLire la suite « 15% of the load! »
